Vaping: A Hidden Threat to Oral Health

Have you found yourself stuck in what seems to be a never-ending cycle of smoking vapes but also trying to quit? Uncover the hidden threats vaping poses to oral health, from gum disease to cavities and beyond. We've teamed up with Dr. Kiren Johal to delve deep into the alarming rise of vaping, especially among the youth, and it’s overlooked consequences.

In recent years vaping has emerged as a popular alternative to smoking, especially among teenagers and young adults. However, the potential damage it can inflict on oral health is often overlooked.

The Rise of Vaping

Over the past four years vaping has seen a significant surge, with millions in the UK alone inhaling flavoured liquids daily. Initially introduced as a less harmful substitute for cigarettes, vaping has become a trend in its own right, particularly among the youth.

The Hidden Dangers

Vape juices contain propylene glycol (PG), which, although deemed safe to inhale, can break down into acids that damage enamel and irritate soft tissues when used orally. Moreover, some cheaper brands include carcinogens and harmful chemicals like antifreeze in their products…ANTIFREEZE! You wouldn’t drink it, so why are you smoking it?

Gum Disease: A Silent Foe

Nicotine, a common component in both cigarettes and vapes, can reduce blood flow to the gums, masking the symptoms of gum disease. This lack of blood flow hinders the gums' healing ability, and although you can not see the damage that is coughed right now, we all know how painful gums and teeth can be, so don’t let it become too late.
